Gemini 4 Argon release date: who gets it first, and when

Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30, 2026, but "announced" and "available" are not the same thing this time. Argon is rolling out in stages. Here is who has it, who is next, and what Google hasn't said yet.

The Gemini 4 Argon rollout, step by step

1. Now: trusted cyber defenders. Since September 30, 2026, Argon has been available to a vetted group of security teams through Google's Fairwind Program, and to teams inside Google.
2. Soon: paid API customers and Google AI Ultra. Google says these two groups are next. It uses the word "soon" and gives no date.
3. Later: everyone else. Wider access for more developers, businesses and people on other plans is expected after that, but Google hasn't shared a schedule.

Why is Gemini 4 Argon rolling out so slowly?

Because of what it's good at. Argon is unusually strong at finding and exploiting security weaknesses in software. On Google's own charts it finds 85.8% of real-world vulnerabilities in a 20-language test, well ahead of Google's security-tuned Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber model. That is great news for defenders and a real risk in the wrong hands.

Google puts it simply: "Safely releasing frontier capabilities at this level requires a phased approach." So defenders get a head start to find and fix holes before the model is widely available. Google also describes safety work around misuse, prompt-injection attacks, monitoring for misaligned behavior, and running the model in sandboxed environments.

What is the Fairwind Program?

Fairwind is the name Google gives the program that puts Argon in the hands of trusted cyber defenders first. The announcement does not describe an open sign-up, so for now think of it as an invited program for security teams, not a waitlist anyone can join. Will Gemini 4 Argon be in the Gemini app?

Yes, starting with Google AI Ultra subscribers, Google's top consumer plan. Google hasn't said when (or whether) people on other plans get Argon in the Gemini app. Once Ultra access opens, the usual path will be to pick Argon from the model menu in the Gemini app. We'll confirm the exact steps the day it appears. When will the Gemini 4 Argon API be available?

Paid API customers are part of the next wave, "soon". Google already published the price ($2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output at launch), which usually means the API is close. Is Gemini 4 Argon free?

Not as far as anyone knows today. Google has not announced a free tier, and the first two public-facing groups (paid API customers and AI Ultra subscribers) both pay. Free access may come later, as it often has with Gemini models, but that is a guess, not an announcement.
