A token is roughly three quarters of an English word, so one million tokens is about 750,000 words. Google says the intro price comes first and the standard price follows, but it hasn't said when the switch happens. It also hasn't published rate limits or any separate price for very long prompts yet.
The one number to remember: output costs five times as much as input. With Argon's 1M-token output limit, a single maximum-length answer costs about $10 at the intro price. Cap your outputs.

The pattern is clear: reading is cheap, writing is where the money goes. For most teams, a monthly Argon bill will be driven by how much it writes, not how much you feed it.
How to spend less on Gemini 4 Argon
- Cache what repeats. If you send the same codebase, manual or policy again and again, cached input is 95% off at the intro price.
- Cap the output. Set a maximum output length on every call. Raise it only for the jobs that truly need a giant answer.
- Plan, then write. A short planning call is cheap. It stops you paying for a huge answer that heads the wrong way.
- Use a smaller model for small jobs. Quick classification, short replies and simple edits rarely need a frontier model.
Is Gemini 4 Argon free?
Not so far. Google has not announced a free tier for Argon in the API, and the first consumer access is planned for Google AI Ultra, its top paid plan. The first API access goes to paid customers.
